Troubleshooting / FAQ

We’re aware that there are a few teething problems with Tweetake - please bear with us - it’s early days :)

Here are a few of our most asked questions:

Are there any limits on the number of records you’ll back up?

Sadly, because of the way Tweetake works and the limits imposed by Twitter, we can’t always give you all your Twitter data. The good news is that the limits have recently been raised because Twitter likes the application enough to “whitelist” it.

These are our current limits on the different types of record you can back up in one go:

  • Up to 10,000 followers’ tweets
  • Up to 1,000 favorites (currently limited to 200 by Twitter, sorry)
  • Up to 10,000 friends’ tweets
  • Up to 3,200 tweets
  • Up to 1,000 direct messages

The best way to make sure you get the most records is to back up each category (followers, following, tweets etc) separately. And then make a note to back up every week / month / your choice of frequency.

When I back up my friends (or followers) there’s more lines in the file than I have friends (or followers), how’s that?

Tweetake doesn’t currently back up your list of friends (or followers), it backs up their tweets. We may introduce a separate feature to deal with lists of users in future.

How do I restore my followers / following

Currently there is no easy way to import your followers back into your twitter account, or into a new account. The point of Tweetake is that you have a record of them and can then go back and follow / request that they follow you again. If Twitter ever implements an import function, we’ll let you know.

Do you make money from Tweetake?

No! This was done in our spare time, and is supported in our spare time too. We have plenty of ideas for improvements and additions, but our ‘real jobs’ bring in the money, so Tweetake gets what time we have left over, unfortunately. The site has ads, and we now have a Paypal ‘donate’ button, so if you want to give us a helping hand you know what to do :)

Do you produce other Twitter apps?

Currently no, although we do have a wishlist that we hope to get started on soon. Also, Alfred may be available to write Twitter apps if you have an idea and a budget, but aren’t quite sure where to start.

If you receive an error message or have any other issues with or questions about Tweetake, please drop Nikki an email at nikki@nikkipilkington.com or Tweet her on Twitter.

Likewise, if you have any suggestions for improvement, please let us know - we’re open to constructive criticism!
